Yofair Face Socks

The face is cut out of the photograph and repeated, so it runs round the foot and up the leg rather than sitting once on the ankle. That is what makes these work as a joke: it is not a picture of somebody on a sock, it is somebody's face forty times. A short line of text goes underneath: a name, a relationship, whatever is being said.

The cut-out is why the photograph matters. A face square on to the camera, lit from the front, with hair clear of the jaw, cuts cleanly. A profile, a hat brim, sunglasses or a busy background do not, and no printing fixes that afterwards. Dogs and cats cut out as well as people do, provided the animal is looking at the lens. If the picture is the only one you have and it is bad, the socks will be bad, and that is worth knowing before rather than after.
