From a step away it is a leather cord wrapped round a wrist; the names only appear when somebody is close enough to read a bead six millimetres across and twelve long, which is about the size of a shirt button. The braid holds its round section rather than flattening into a strap after a month.

The second is that the cord is one length, 27.6 inches worn in three wraps, so it sits differently on a heavy wrist than on a slim one, closer to two and a half turns than three.
