The official Yofair catalogue

Yofair puts one name on something they use every day

You already know whose name it is. What you are deciding is which thing to put it on, and how it will read at arm's length: a cursive plate on a chain, a date along a bar, a birth flower beside the letters, a name repeated across a flannel blanket. Every Yofair card here prints the metal, the size and the price from our last update, so you can settle the present before you type the spelling.

Six Yofair shelves, cut by what the present is

The nameplate necklaces are the shelf this catalogue is bought on. The blankets are the shelf it is kept for. Between them sit the bracelets, the small pieces, the cases a wedding party is thanked with, and the things with a photograph on them.

02Three things to settle first

What a Yofair card tells you before you click

How the letters are cut, what the piece is made of, and how large it comes. Those three settle almost every order on this site.

Letters

Cursive, block or bubble

A cursive plate is one connected piece of metal, so the letters hold each other up and the tail of the last one carries the weight. Bubble letters stand separately and read further off. An Arabic plate is cut right to left from the script as typed. The card says which of them you are looking at, and the photograph shows a sample name, not yours.

Metal

Gold plate, silver or steel

Most of the jewelry here is 18K gold plating over stainless steel; part of it is 925 sterling silver. Those words are defined in law rather than by us: the federal jewelry guides let a piece be called gold plated only where the plating is durable and the karat is stated with it. Plate wears at the clasp first; silver dulls and comes back with a cloth.

Size

Inches, on the card

A blanket is bought by the rectangle: 30 by 40 for a lap or a pram, 40 by 50 for a child, 50 by 60 for one adult on a sofa, 60 by 80 for a double bed. A chain is bought by its length and a ring by its size, and a ring with a name cut into the band cannot be resized afterwards. The figure is on every card.

03Ordered first

Twelve Yofair presents people pick before anything else

Each card prints what it is made of, how large it comes and the price from our last update. The nameplates and the blankets lead, because those are the two things this catalogue is known for.

04The measurement people get wrong

Four Yofair blanket sizes, and six routes to a present

Thirty by forty inches sounds like a blanket and covers a lap. The plate nests the four rectangles inside each other so you can see the difference instead of doing the arithmetic; beside it are the six routes this catalogue is actually shopped by, each one a page of its own.

60" x 80" 50" x 60" 40" x 50" 30" x 40" Relative scale, not life size

Drawn to relative scale, not to life size: a screen does not know how large it is. The figures are the ones printed on our own cards.

05What we make

Yofair puts one name on a thing that gets used

The range as it is photographed for the catalogue: plates, chains, cases and cloth, one after another.

Two hands holding a cream square jewelry case with a daisy and a name printed on the lid, three more cases stacked behind it

Two seconds decide the first half of this: somebody works the letters out at arm's length and either smiles or does not. The other half arrives three months later, when the plating has been through a coat sleeve and the blanket has been through a wash. The Yofair range is built for the second half. That is why the nameplates are cut from one sheet rather than strung together as separate charms, why the blanket printing sits on one face and leaves the back plain fleece, and why a case is stiff enough that a chain does not come out of it in a knot.

The rest of what we do is arithmetic somebody has to do before the parcel arrives. A ten-letter name on a plate ten millimetres tall is half as wide again as a six-letter one, and it wants a longer chain to hang clear of a collar. A blanket ordered for a double bed at thirty by forty inches is a lap rug and a disappointment. A photograph that looks sharp on a phone is about to be printed two and a half feet across. Yofair puts those figures on the card instead of in the small print, and where a thing cannot be promised (what a metal will do on one person's skin, whether a spelling will be accepted as typed) the page says so and stops.

What a metal name on a Yofair card means

That the piece is sold as 18K gold plated, as 925 sterling silver or as stainless steel in our own product data. It is a description of the material, not a verdict on anyone's skin. What nickel does, and which metals are least likely to cause trouble, is set out by the American Academy of Dermatology; the words hypoallergenic and nickel-free belong to the manufacturer who printed them, and this site does not repeat them in its own voice.

The longer answer to what this brand is lives on Read what Yofair makes and who it is for.

06Straight to a piece

The Yofair pieces people search for by name

The nameplates and the bar, the bracelets and the anklet, the blankets by what is printed on them, the cases a wedding party is thanked with, and the presents with a photograph. Each page holds its own pieces, prices and options.

Fourteen pages cut across the shelves, so a search for a name necklace, a photo blanket or a bridesmaid jewelry case lands on the part of Yofair keepsakes that answers it.

Yofair Name Necklace

The nameplate is what this catalogue is known for, and the choice inside it is narrower than it looks. Cursive is one connected piece of metal, so the letters carry each other and the plate stays stiff; bubble letters stand apart and read from further off; an Arabic plate is cut right to left from the script as typed. Under all of them sits the same decision about metal: gold plating over steel, which is warm and wears at the clasp first, or 925 sterling silver, which dulls instead and comes back with a cloth.

Yofair Birth Flower Gifts

A birth flower does the job a birthstone does, without the argument about what the stone actually is. There is one flower for each month (carnation for January, violet for February, and so on round the year), and on this page it appears twice: cut in outline beside the letters of a nameplate, and printed on the lid of the little leatherette travel case that a wedding party is usually thanked with. Both take the same name, and both are chosen by the month of the person rather than by a colour.

Yofair Name Bracelet

A name on a wrist is read by the person wearing it, which is a different job from a necklace. The plate lies along the chain rather than hanging from it, so the letters sit the right way up when a hand is on a table or a steering wheel. Four versions separate on what stands beside the name: nothing at all, one small heart at the tail, a run of hearts spaced down the chain, or a blue evil eye. All of them close with a lobster clasp and an extender, so a bracelet that arrives long is still wearable.

Yofair Mens Bracelet

This is the one bought for a father, and it works because it is not obviously a personalised present at all. What it looks like is a braided leather cuff; the names are on flat steel beads strung along the braid, and you have to be close to read them. Two beads for two children, eight for a family that has grown. The clasp is magnetic with a safety catch, which matters more than it sounds: it is the only piece on this site a man can get on one-handed.

Yofair Photo Blanket

A photograph on a wall is looked at twice a year. A photograph on a blanket is under somebody every evening, and that is the reason people come back and order a second one. One picture can run across the whole cloth, or a grid can hold up to ten; the print is on one face and the back stays plain fleece, so the side that gets slept on is the soft one. The four sizes matter more than the layout does: thirty by forty inches is a lap, fifty by sixty covers one adult on a sofa, and sixty by eighty is the one for a bed.

Yofair Baby Blanket

This is the present that arrives at a baby shower with the name already on it, and it is worth saying plainly where it goes. A named blanket is for a pram, a play mat, a car seat and a lap. It is not bedding for a cot: the paediatric guidance is that for the first year nothing goes in the crib but a fitted sheet, and no printed name changes that. Within those uses it is the right thing: 36 inches square or 30 by 40, flannel on one face and a satin edge on the other, which is the bit babies actually hold on to.

Yofair Jewelry Box

This is the piece a wedding party is thanked with, and the reason is arithmetic: six bridesmaids, six names, one order. The case is 3.9 inches each way and 2 deep, stiff enough that a chain does not come out of it in a knot, with three hooks for necklaces along the top, six slots below for rings, and the rest of the space divided as you want it. The name and the flower of a birth month go on the lid.

07Who decides what

The Yofair desk, by the decision each person makes for you

Four decisions you can hold a card against: the lettering, the metal, the run of sizes, and the letters that come in when one of them is wrong.

The case open on a bed with pearls, studs and a ring in the roll, the lid pocket unzipped
Decision 01

The lettering

Settles how a name is cut and what it will do to a long one. Cursive plates joined through the tails, bubble letters standing apart, block capitals along a bar, Arabic cut right to left. The rule that follows from it is on every card: the plate is ten millimetres tall whatever is written on it, and up to fifteen characters, so length is measured across rather than down.

Decision 02

The metal and the cloth

Decides what each shelf is made of and keeps it on the card. Eighteen carat gold plating over stainless steel across most of the jewelry, 925 sterling silver on part of it, soft leatherette on the cases, cotton on the wash bags, flannel and fleece on the blankets. A tone is a plating; the metal under it is what the card names.

Decision 03

The run of sizes

Chooses what is offered in what. Four blanket rectangles from 30 by 40 to 60 by 80, two wash bag sizes, canvas at ten by eight and twelve by eight inches, chains with an extender at the clasp. The figure that ends up on the card is the one from our own product data, not a rounded one.

Decision 04

The corrections

Reads what you write in and fixes the page when you are right. A size that argues with the photograph, a metal named wrongly, a character count that is off by two: the correction goes on the page, and the address is at the foot of every one of them.

09Before you order

Three things to check before you type a Yofair name

Almost every exchange we hear about starts the same way: a spelling was typed in a hurry, or a size was chosen from a photograph. Five minutes here saves the parcel.

Measurement 1

The spelling, read back out loud

Type the name the way the person spells it, capitals and all, and then read it back from the screen rather than from memory. Two capitals in the middle of a name are the ones that go wrong most often, and an accent typed as a plain letter is cut as a plain letter. Nothing on a personalised piece is fixed after it is cut, so this is the minute that matters.

Measurement 2

The length of the name

Count the letters. The plate is ten millimetres tall whatever is cut into it and holds up to fifteen characters, so a ten-letter name is not a taller necklace, it is a wider one, and on a small frame a wide plate wants the eighteen or twenty inch chain rather than the fourteen. If the line to be carried is longer than a name, the engraved bar takes up to thirty characters on each of its four sides.

Measurement 3

The size, against the room

For a blanket, measure the sofa or the bed rather than guessing from the picture: 50 by 60 inches covers one adult, and 60 by 80 is the one for a double bed. For a ring, measure a ring already worn on that finger, and take the larger of two readings. For a bracelet, add about half an inch to the wrist.

10In their words

What came back after a few months of wearing and washing them

Comments about our own pieces, shown as they came in, with the piece each one names linked underneath. The complaints are in: a plating that wore and a plate that came out smaller than expected are worth more to you than another five stars.

I wanted it with a space. They let me put a space in the proof. It didn't come with it. I thought I would be ok with it but it doesn't say what I want it to say and I hate it, and really won't wear it. Otherwise would be ok, but don't use if you have a name or something to say that has a space. Kind of upset, but because the postal service dropped my package in someone else's yard in the rain and all the packaging got all wet, plus it's custom I don't think I can return it.

So, I play a Lotta dnd. And maps have always been a pain point for me. Carrying em around in a tube fine. But the moment u wanna hang em on a wall. Or lay one out on a table it gets holes or something spilled on it and ur like dang. For a 1 of map, maybe no big. But I use really large world maps. Enter the Map Blanket, the details are great, I'm really happy with it. It arrived quickly. Quality is awesome. I don't know about wash ability yet, but I suspect it'll be fine. This may not have been what these were intended for, but I'm sold.

I got this as an anniversary gift for my boyfriend. I got us a matching set with our anniversary date and our own secret saying to each other. There is just enough room for a short message and you can write on multiple sides. The font options are great too! It is simple and perfect for both men or women if you like a sleek look. I got the longest chain length so I can wear it with my other necklace and it fits perfectly. This way this one sits a little lower on the chest but not too low where it gets stuck in your shirt.

Absolutely a great gift for my 20 yr old granddaughter last Xmas. I chose pink with her name monogramed. You would have thought it was the best gift she got. She took it with her on her trip to Italy this summer so a perfect gift. Couldn't believe how expensive it looked and just so cute. Buy it but be sure to put their name on it.

Four pieces on names, metal and what a print can hold

How many letters actually fit on a plate, what "gold plated" is allowed to mean, which blanket size suits which room, and what a photograph has to look like before it is printed two feet wide.

How many letters actually fit on a nameplate

A nameplate is ten millimetres tall whatever is cut into it, and it takes up to fifteen characters. So length runs sideways: a ten-letter name is a wider pendant than a six-letter one, it hangs differently, and the script you pick matters more than the metal does.

A gold nameplate in an open white box with a printed card beside it

Two words with a legal definition · 9 min read

What "gold plated" is allowed to mean

Gold plated, gold filled, vermeil, sterling silver: four phrases that sound like grades of the same thing and are not. The federal jewelry guides define each of them, and knowing which one is on the card tells you where the piece will wear first.

Which blanket size for which room

Four rectangles, and the difference between the smallest and the largest is four times the cloth. Ordering the wrong one is the commonest disappointment in this category, and it is entirely avoidable with a tape measure and two minutes.

What a photograph needs before it is printed

The picture that looks sharp in your hand is about to be printed two and a half feet wide, or cut out of its background and repeated round a sock. Both do things to a photograph that no amount of care afterwards can undo, and both are predictable before you upload it.

12Questions people ask

What buyers ask Yofair before they order

Six of them. Longer answers live on the shelf pages and in Notes.

Where can you buy Yofair necklaces, blankets and cases?

Every buying button on this site opens the piece you were looking at, in the finish you chose, at our retail partner. That is where the name is typed, where the payment and the delivery happen, and where the price you see is the price you pay.

The button at the foot of every page opens the whole range at once, which is the quicker route if you are still deciding between a necklace and a blanket.

How long does a Yofair present take to arrive?

That is our retail partner's answer rather than ours, and it is on the page the buying button opens: they hold the stock, they make the piece with your name on it, and they ship it. What we can tell you is that everything here is made to order rather than picked off a shelf, so a personalised parcel takes longer than an unmarked one.

If a date matters, read the delivery estimate on their page before you order rather than after.

Can you change the spelling on a Yofair order after it is placed?

Not through us, we never see the name. The spelling, the font and any photograph are typed in at our retail partner's checkout, and a change to them is a message to their customer service, quickly, before the piece is cut.

This is the reason the front page asks you to read the spelling back off the screen rather than from memory. Two capitals in the middle of a name are the ones that go wrong most often.

Which Yofair present suits somebody who already has everything?

The ones that get used rather than worn. A blanket with a name on it is under somebody every evening; a wash bag is opened every morning; a travel jewelry case goes in the hand luggage of a person who already owns the jewelry. Those three are what people come back and order a second time.

If it has to be jewelry, the bar pendant carries a date rather than a name, which is the version that suits somebody who does not wear their own name.

Are Yofair pieces real gold or silver?

Both, depending on the piece, and the card says which. Most of the jewelry is 18K gold plating over stainless steel; part of it is 925 sterling silver. The federal jewelry guides are what make those phrases mean anything: "gold plated" is allowed only where the plating is durable and the karat is stated with it, and "sterling silver" means 925 parts of silver in a thousand.

What a metal does on a particular person is a different question, and not one a catalogue should answer. The American Academy of Dermatology publishes what nickel does and which metals are least likely to cause trouble.

Can a Yofair blanket with a name on it go in a cot?

No. A named blanket is a present for a pram, a play mat, a car seat or a lap, while the baby is awake. The American Academy of Pediatrics is explicit that for the first year nothing goes into the crib but a fitted sheet (no blankets, pillows, toys or bumpers) and a name printed on the cloth changes nothing about that.

Within those uses it is a good present, and the satin trim on one edge is the part a small hand finds and keeps hold of.

Nothing on this site is medical advice. A blanket with a name on it is a present for a pram, a play mat or a lap, and it is not bedding for a baby: the safe-sleep guidance is that for the first year nothing goes in the crib but a fitted sheet.

Prices on this page are the figures from our last update; the Yofair rule updates them on a schedule, and the figure at the till is the one that counts.
